Love Apples replanted with the city
It was a warm, early morning in El Sereno, Los Angeles. Soon after I arrived, Rudy, the Lead Senior Gardener for the area for the Dept. of Public Works, and Vicky, another employee from the Dept of Public Works, drove up in their bright orange pick ups with the tomato plants in the back. David Burns and Matias Viegener from Fallen Fruit joined us a few minutes later and, finally, Miroslav Mandic, who was shooting the activity as part of a documentary he is doing, arrived. We chatted a bit, sorted out the location and proceeded to replant the 18 tomato plants the city had removed and put in their nursery (info on the removal and approval for replanting).
At the end, we harvested a bunch of sweet Cherry and Roma tomatoes and shared them with Rudy and Vicky.
And, as a symbolic gesture, the city presented Fallen Fruit and Islands of LA with 2 safety vests and community safety helmets.
Big thanks to the Public Works department and Rudy and Vicky for helping make this replanting possible!
